- Understand the actual data behind the current opioid crisis
- Understand the contribution of practitioners in the Difficult Patient dynamic
- Learn a clinical approach to the Difficult Patient

About the speaker:
Dr. Steven Prakken is the Director of Medical Pain Service at Duke University. Dr. Prakken is a Board Certified Psychiatrist with a secondary Board Certification in Pain Management.
Dr. Prakken’s specialty is the comprehensive treatment of complex pain patients diagnosed with multiple physical and psychiatric conditions. He has particular expertise treating pain patients presenting with multiple comorbid disorders of mood, personality, impulsivity, and substance misuse.Dr. Prakken has a strong interest in Opiate Induced Hyperalgesia and lectures frequently on the topic. His other teaching and research interests are the clinical, cultural, and population dynamics related to the treatment of chronic non-cancer pain, and the neurophysiologic relationship of disease states in pain and psychiatry.
Dr. Prakken is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Psychiatric Association, and is a Board Member of the Pain Society of the Carolinas.
